3D model of a Saber-Toothed Cat (NHMW-GEO-1910/0102/0001)

3D scan of an original fossilized skeleton of a saber-toothed cat (Smilodon populator) from the late Pleistocene. It was found in Río Areco in Argentina and is about 40,000 years old. A healed bone fracture in this saber-toothed cat’s left thigh suggests that the animal belonged to a pack that provided it with food while it was unable to run and hunt on its own. There are some ideas how the bone was broken.
