Abstract

3D scan of a reconstruction of a dodo (Raphus cucullatus), the now extinct flightless bird which was endemic to the island of Mauritius. The first eyewitnesses of the dodo were a Dutch fleet led by Van Warwjick in 1598 - within 100 years the dodo was extinct. There is not a single complete skeleton of a single specimen, and all existing dodo models, like this one, are reconstructions.

This Dodo reconstruction was made by the model builder Iris Rubin (NHMW) and can be found in Hall 31 of the NHM Vienna.
