Abstract

3D scan of a 69 mm long burin made from white patinated chert. Tools of this kind are especially common and appear in great variety in Central Europe during the Upper Paleolithic. They were used to work hard materials, such as dry wood or bone, antler, or stone. The burin originated from layer 9 of the Willendorf II site in the Wachau Region in Lower Austria. It is one of the numerous artefacts found in the same site as the Venus of Willendorf.
